The Bhopal Metro Project has taken a major step forward with the start of underground tunnel construction, marking a new phase in the city’s transit transformation.
Led by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, the project recently saw the deployment of a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), a key piece of technology designed for safe and efficient excavation in dense urban environments. Positioned at a depth of around 24 metres, the machine has officially begun tunnelling work, setting the pace for faster progress ahead.
Officials emphasised the importance of maintaining construction momentum while adhering to strict safety and quality standards. The underground section is a crucial component in building a seamless and future-ready metro network for the city.
The project has already seen the launch of its first operational stretch under the Orange Line’s priority corridor, improving connectivity across key urban nodes. As construction advances, the metro is expected to significantly enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and support sustainable urban growth in Bhopal.
With underground works now underway, the project is moving steadily toward becoming a comprehensive public transport backbone for the city.
