Kochi Metro plans Phase-III extension linking airport and Angamaly

The Kochi Metro Rail Limited is preparing the detailed project blueprint for the Phase-III extension of Kochi Metro connecting Aluva to Cochin International Airport and Angamaly, with the report expected by April 2026.

The proposed corridor is estimated to cost over Rs 8,000 crore and will be finalised after assessing feasibility, land acquisition needs and accessibility. Multiple alignment options, elevated, underground or a combination, are being evaluated, with the airport connection forming the key objective of the project.

Around 15 stations are likely along the route, though the final count will depend on the selected alignment. The line is intended to improve access to the airport and strengthen regional connectivity in the northern Kochi urban area.

Once the blueprint is approved, the project will move to detailed construction planning and approvals. The extension is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the city and the airport while expanding Kerala’s urban mass-transit network.
