CMRL Targets March 2027 Opening For Vadapalani–Panagal Park Section

Chennai Metro Rail Limited is progressing as scheduled to open the Vadapalani–Panagal Park section of Phase II’s Corridor 4 by March 2027. The 3.5 km underground stretch forms part of the 26.1 km Corridor 4, which will connect Lighthouse and Poonamallee Bypass.

Construction activities are advancing steadily, with tunnelling works between Vadapalani and Panagal Park already completed. Track-laying operations are expected to begin shortly. At Panagal Park station, structural works have reached the concourse and platform levels, while excavation continues at other station areas along the section.

CMRL is also evaluating the possibility of opening another segment of Corridor 4, between Poonamallee and Vadapalani, as the first operational stretch of Phase II.

Once commissioned, the Vadapalani–Panagal Park section will provide direct metro connectivity to T Nagar. Passengers will be able to interchange at Vadapalani using the existing Phase I network, significantly reducing travel time. Panagal Park station will also play a critical operational role, housing crossover tracks for depot access and emergency operations.
