Maharashtra’s infrastructure development received a major boost with the Union Cabinet’s approval for the Dighi Port Industrial Area to be established as an industrial smart city in Raigad district. Located 55 km east of Dighi Port, this new smart city will cover 6,056 acres and involve an investment of ₹5,469 crore. It is projected to attract ₹38,000 crore in investments and create around 109,185 jobs, driving significant economic growth in the region.
The Dighi smart city, along with the Vadhavan Port, is expected to catalyze growth across various sectors including engineering, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, and food and beverages. Its strategic location near the Dighi Port will facilitate port-led industrialization and help ease congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area, while enhancing connectivity to Mumbai and Pune.
The smart city will benefit from its proximity to NH753F Mangaon-Pune, NH66 Mumbai-Goa, and state highway 97, as well as rail links to Kolad, Indapur, and Mangaon. Access to major airports like Mumbai, Pune, and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport will further boost its accessibility.
Additionally, a Multi-Modal Logistic Park is planned for Dighi, aimed at optimizing freight and passenger movement and reducing logistics costs from 14-16% to around 9%. This development will enhance efficiency and competitiveness for businesses in the region, positioning Maharashtra as a leading industrial and economic powerhouse in the country.
