ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, is set to construct a Deep Draft Greenfield Jetty with a 65 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) capacity in Suvali near Hazira, specifically in Shivrampur village.
This proposed jetty project is intended to address AM/NS India’s rising demand for essential raw materials like iron ore, limestone, and coal, as well as the handling capacity for finished steel, which is necessary due to the company’s expansion plans. It will function as a dedicated jetty for AM/NS India’s current integrated steel plant and will also serve its future requirements. The project will be executed in two phases.
In line with its strategic growth initiatives, the company is actively working to increase the production capacity of its integrated steel plant in Hazira. The expansion aims to raise the capacity from the current 9.6 MMTPA to 15.6 MMTPA by 2026 and eventually to 21 MMTPA by 2030.
The existing steel plant currently utilizes a shallow water captive jetty as well as a deep draft jetty owned and operated by a group company in Hazira for the handling of raw materials and finished products. However, due to infrastructure limitations, these two jetty facilities are encountering operational challenges in managing the growing volume of steel plant cargoes.
AM/NS India aims to achieve a steel capacity of 51 MMTPA by 2030, spanning its Hazira and Odisha facilities.
