Construction of MMRDA’s 6.5-kilometre Gaimukh-Payegaon Creek Bridge in Thane has reached 25 per cent overall physical progress, with piling work for the Thane Creek section at 95 per cent completion. Pier erection and pier-cap construction are now advancing at both ends of the alignment, with contractor Ashoka Buildcon executing the project under Sheladia Associates as project management consultant.
Approved at Rs 1,551.18 crore, the four-lane elevated structure connects Gaimukh on Ghodbunder Road with Chinchoti and Payegaon, offering a direct route toward Bhiwandi, Vasai, and northern parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The alignment crosses the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor, the Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, the Diva-Vasai railway line, and the Dedicated Freight Corridor before terminating near Payegaon village.
The bridge addresses a critical missing link where the current road journey takes approximately 1.5 hours. Once complete, it will integrate with several concurrent MMRDA projects in the corridor, including the 13.45-kilometre six-lane Thane Coastal Road between Balkum and Gaimukh and the 8.24-kilometre Anand Nagar-Saket elevated road along the Eastern Express Highway.
