The Lucknow Development Authority is set to redevelop old low-rise housing into modern high-rise apartments under the Uttar Pradesh Urban Redevelopment Policy 2026, signalling a shift towards vertical urban renewal in Lucknow.
Vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar has directed officials to prepare detailed proposals for the first phase, covering key locations including Wazir Hasan Road, Paper Mill Colony, and Sector G of the Kanpur Road Scheme.
The Wazir Hasan Road complex, built in 1988, comprises four G+3 blocks with 64 flats, many now in poor condition with encroachments and unauthorised occupancy. Similar challenges exist in Sector G, where nearly 1,000 double-storey units built in 1990 are affected.
Under the redevelopment plan, these ageing structures will be replaced with multi-storey housing offering upgraded infrastructure and amenities, with existing allottees to be rehabilitated within the new developments.
The move reflects a broader push to optimise land use while improving living standards in legacy residential zones.
