Two Bridges in Kannur is set for inauguration by the Kerala CM

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to inaugurate two newly constructed bridges in Dharmadam, located in Kannur, marking a significant step towards improving regional connectivity in northern Kerala. The state government stated that the projects aim to ease traffic congestion and enhance access between residential areas and nearby commercial hubs separated by waterways.

Developed by the Kerala Public Works Department in coordination with local municipalities, the bridges have been designed to support mixed traffic movement, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for daily commuters, students and traders who depend on the coastal corridor. Authorities expect the new infrastructure to significantly reduce travel time between key neighbourhoods while improving access to essential services such as markets, healthcare and educational institutions.

The projects also address long-standing mobility challenges during seasonal weather conditions, when existing road links were frequently disrupted. Engineers have incorporated durability measures and structured maintenance plans to ensure long-term operational safety and reliability.

Prior to construction, the works underwent regulatory approvals and environmental assessments, while community consultations helped shape aspects of the design to better meet local requirements. In addition to the bridge structures, approach roads were rehabilitated and drainage systems upgraded to ensure seamless integration with the existing transport network.

Officials noted that the bridges will be opened for public use following formal commissioning procedures. The inauguration is expected to bring tangible improvements to everyday mobility in Dharmadam and surrounding wards, while supporting local economic activity and strengthening regional infrastructure development efforts across the state.
