The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has directed Gurugram Metro Rail Limited to develop a section of the Gurugram Metro as a double-decker structure along Old Delhi Road, between Jwala Mill T-point and Dundahera.
About 1.25 km of the line will run on shared pillars carrying both an elevated road and the metro viaduct. Under the arrangement, one deck will support vehicular traffic while the other will carry metro tracks. Authorities are also identifying additional land for the Sector-21 station.
The change follows a slight alignment shift from Rao Gajraj Singh Road towards Dundahera to improve access for commuters in Old Delhi Road and Udyog Vihar. Officials noted the approach could lower construction costs and optimise space use.
The authority is also examining other elevated corridors, including a 7.4-km stretch between Rajiv Chowk and the railway station–Atul Kataria Chowk section, and further elevated road links towards the Dwarka Expressway. Similar double-decker metro-road systems have been implemented in Nagpur, Jaipur and Bengaluru.
