The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant reports profit

With continued support from the Central and Andhra Pradesh governments, public sector enterprise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has moved back into profit, officials told Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday. Its corporate entity Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) has witnessed a turnaround over the last 18 months, reporting a profit of ₹54 crore in January 2026.

The support in the areas like taxes, power dues and water supply has helped the plant recover losses. Officials also said the central government’s assistance of Rs 11,440 crore helped the steel plant to stabilise its operations. Another major thing that they noted was that the plant capacity utilisation reached 94 percent, up from 45 percent in the previous year.

In the presence of Union Steel Ministry Secretary Sandeep Poundrik, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Chairman and Managing Director Manish Raj Gupta, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, and other senior state government officials , the CM reviewed the progress of the steel plant.

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the steel plant at a meeting held at the Secretariat on Tuesday. Union Steel Ministry Secretary Sandeep Poundrik, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Chairman and Managing Director Manish Raj Gupta, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, and other senior state government officials were present. The CMD said that the plant is currently producing 19,401 tonnes of hot metal per day, compared to just 9,215 tonnes per day in the second quarter of 2024–25.
