Another significant milestone has been achieved in India’s infrastructure development with the successful construction of a 100-metre-long steel bridge for the Ahmedabad–Mumbai Bullet Train project. This bridge is the 13th completed structure out of the 17 planned projects in Gujarat.
The bridge runs over the underground metro tunnel connecting Kalupur and Shahpur metro stations. The span length was increased to 100 metres, and the design was changed from span-by-span viaduct to a steel-truss bridge in order to maximise structural stability and to ensure that no weight of the train structure is transferred to the underground metro tunnel.
National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) officials said the bridge weighs 1,098 metric tonnes and runs parallel to the Sabarmati main line of Western Railway.
