Goa’s Public Works Department (PWD) has submitted an infrastructure expansion proposal worth ₹7,076.9 crore to the Union government, focusing on major road and bridge projects across the state. PWD Minister Digambar Kamat said the proposals were presented to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during his recent visit to Delhi.
Key projects include the Borim bridge with approach roads, estimated at ₹1,235 crore, and the Cuncolim bypass on NH-66, pegged at ₹1,938 crore. The package also features large four-laning works such as the Goa–Karnataka border stretch at Mollem (₹2,497 crore), Mollem–Khandepar section (₹1,066 crore), and the Arlem eastern bypass (₹600 crore), for which the DPR is already complete.
Alongside new proposals, the PWD has initiated safety audits of bridges, culverts and government buildings, and plans reforms in road maintenance through long-term contracts and stricter controls on road digging.
