In a landmark development for Assam’s road infrastructure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the Palashbari-Sualkuchi bridge across the Brahmaputra River. This ambitious project is set to significantly enhance connectivity and improve transportation within the region.

Speaking at the event, Sarma reflected on the foundation stone ceremony led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2023, which included the inauguration of key projects such as AIIMS, a petrochemical plant in Naharkatia, and the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge. He underscored the transformative potential of the new 3.6-kilometre bridge in linking Assam’s northern and southern regions, addressing logistical challenges, and improving access to critical areas.

Set for completion by June 2028, the bridge is part of a broader strategy to bolster Assam’s infrastructure. Other major initiatives include the Indian Institute of Management in Palashbari, the Bogibeel Bridge, a proposed bridge connecting Jorhat and Majuli, and the elevated wildlife corridor in Kaziranga. Additional developments in the Barak Valley aim to promote regional growth and sustainability.

Sarma emphasised that these projects align with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for national progress, asserting that the bridge will serve as a milestone in Assam’s journey towards becoming a model for development.
