The South Central Railway (SCR) is set to redevelop 53 railway stations across Andhra Pradesh with an investment of $1.4 billion under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). According to SCR Chief Public Relations Officer A. Sridhar, this initiative aims to provide world-class amenities at key stations, including Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram, and Nellore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for these projects a few months ago, emphasizing the goal of transforming the stations into regional growth hubs.
Divisional Railway Manager Narendra A. Patil outlined the redevelopment costs for specific stations, which include $30 million for Tirupati, $21.4 million for Rajamahendravaram, and $10.2 million for Nellore. Other allocations include $4.3 million for Kurnool City, $2.7 million each for Anakapalle and Tadepalligudem, $2.5 million each for Narsapur and Repalle, $2.1 million each for Bhimavaram Town, Eluru, and Kakinada Town, $2 million for Kadapa, and $1.7 million each for Machilipatnam and Gudivada. Additionally, Samalkot will receive $1.5 million, Vinukonda $1.2 million, and Gooty $1.08 million.
The revamped stations will feature enhanced landscaping, stalls under the ‘One Station, One Product’ initiative, expanded entry and circulation areas, LED information boards, improved waiting halls, and better signage. There will also be a strong emphasis on promoting local art and culture. Additional improvements include building footpaths, enhancing parking spaces, electrifying areas, and widening approach roads for better accessibility.
