The Maharashtra government has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 47,500 crore in the renewable energy sector, aligning with its goal to achieve 50% renewable energy by 2030. These projects are expected to create 18,828 jobs, as stated by Deputy Chief Minister and Energy and Irrigation Minister Devendra Fadnavis during the signing ceremony.
The MoUs involve four companies: SJVN, MahaGenco Renewable Energy Ltd, RECPDCL, THDC, and HPRGE-HPCL. Fadnavis emphasized that the state government will provide the necessary support to implement these initiatives within the established timeframe.
RECPDCL will collaborate with the state to develop commercially viable renewable energy projects, starting with a hybrid project of 500 MW, which requires an investment of Rs 3,000 crore and is projected to generate 1,663 jobs. Additionally, the MoU with THDCIL-THDC will facilitate the development of renewable energy projects with a total generation capacity of 4,250 MW in Maharashtra, involving an investment of Rs 29,329 crore and creating 14,130 direct jobs along with 4,250 indirect jobs.
Furthermore, the agreement with HPRGE-HPCL focuses on establishing a 50 KTPA green hydrogen and derivative plant at MahaGenco’s gas-based power facility in Uran, Raigad district. This project will be developed through a joint venture with an investment of Rs 12,000 crore and will generate 1,635 direct and indirect jobs.
SJVN is also exploring the development of a floating solar power plant on the Lower Wardha Dam in partnership with MahaGenco, with a proposed equity participation of 51:49. A pre-feasibility study has identified a 732-hectare site for a 505 MW floating solar plant, which will be developed in two phases: Phase 1 at 100 MW and Phase 2 at 405 MW. The investment for this project is estimated at Rs 3,030 crore, creating 1,400 jobs.
