The data centre market in South India, driven by Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, is expected to grow by 65% by 2030, according to a report released by Colliers India. This growth is attributed to strong government incentives, strategic infrastructure investments, and increasing demand for digital services.
The current combined data centre capacity in these cities is nearly 200 MW. The report notes that an additional 190 MW is under construction and 170 MW is planned, projecting an 80% increase in total capacity in the coming years.
Chennai currently has 87 MW of installed capacity, with 156 MW under construction and 104 MW planned. Bengaluru, benefiting from its robust IT ecosystem, has an installed capacity of 79 MW, with 10 MW under construction and 26 MW planned. Hyderabad, quickly becoming a key data centre location, has 47 MW of installed capacity, with 20 MW under construction and 38 MW planned. The monthly recurring charges for data centres in South India range from Rs 6,650 to Rs 8,500 per kW, providing competitive value for money.
