AM Green and SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to execute one of the world’s largest carbon-free renewable energy supply contracts. This significant agreement, formalized on June 26, 2024, in New Delhi, outlines SGEL’s commitment to supply approximately 4,500 MW of renewable energy to power AM Green’s forthcoming green ammonia facilities.
Under the terms of the MoU, SGEL will establish this substantial energy capacity utilizing solar and wind power technologies. AM Green, in turn, will integrate this renewable energy supply with pumped hydro storage solutions to ensure a consistent and reliable power supply to its green ammonia production facilities. The collaboration represents a major milestone for both companies, showcasing their dedication to advancing India’s renewable energy sector.
SJVN plans to execute the project in three phases, with the initial phase aiming to deliver 1,500 MW within the next two years. This initiative not only marks SJVN’s entry into supplying power to private sector entities but also supports its ambitious targets of achieving 25,000 MW of installed capacity by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040.
AM Green, promoted by the founders of Greenko, has set ambitious goals to produce 5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia by 2030, equivalent to about 1 MTPA of green hydrogen. This production target aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and contributes significantly to Europe’s green hydrogen import targets for 2030.
