L&T Wins Contract for Brahmaputra Cable-Stayed Bridge in Assam

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced that its construction arm has secured a substantial contract for the construction of a 12.21 km-long cable-stayed bridge spanning from Palashbari to Sualkuchi across the Brahmaputra river in Assam. The project, awarded by the state’s Public Works Department (PWD), falls within the ₹2,500 crore to ₹5,000 crore range.

The scope encompasses a 3.6 km cable-stayed bridge section, with 5.61 km and 3 km approaches on the Palashbari and Sualkuchi sides, respectively. The extradosed cable-stayed portion will feature a maximum span of 165 m. The bridge will connect directly to Assam’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and holds significance for Sualkuchi, a major weaving centre known for producing traditional Assamese garments, including the exclusive Muga, or golden silk.

L&T is also actively involved in various infrastructure projects in Assam, including the Dhubri Phulbari Bridge Project for the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL). Additionally, L&T’s hydrocarbon vertical secured a sizable onshore project from IndianOil Adani Ventures Ltd, covering engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of offsite tankages, bullets, and associated facilities on a lump-sum turnkey basis.
