Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (2×800 MW), NSPCL Rourkela PP Expansion Project (1×250 MW), and lay the foundation stone for the NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III (2×660 MW) during his one-day visit to Odisha on February 3. The total investment for these projects amounts to Rs 28.978 crore.
Sudip Nag, the Regional Executive Director (Eastern Region I & II), shared details about these upcoming power projects during a press conference.
The Darlipali STPP, located in Sundargarh district, operates as a pit-head power station with highly efficient supercritical technology. It provides affordable power to beneficiary states such as Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Sikkim.
The 250 MW project by NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd in Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) aims to supply reliable power to the steel plant, a crucial component for economic growth.
Additionally, the NTPC is developing the Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III, within the old TTPS plant premises in Angul district. Acquired from the Odisha State Electricity Board in 1995, this project features highly efficient ultra supercritical technology-based units with approximately three times the capacity of the old TTPS plant. While 50% of the capacity is dedicated to Odisha, other beneficiaries include Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Assam, receiving low-cost power from this pit-head station.
The project incorporates modern environmental features such as efficient electrostatic precipitator, Flue gas desulphurization, bio-mass cofiring, covered storage space for coal, leading to reduced Specific Coal Consumption and C02 emissions.
