The highly anticipated steel flyover, spanning a length of 2.6 kilometres and connecting Indira Park to VST, is poised for inauguration within the next few days. This bi-directional elevated corridor has been strategically constructed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to alleviate traffic congestion in densely populated areas around the RTC crossroads.
With an investment of approximately Rs 350 crore, this project marks the 20th flyover in Hyderabad under the ambit of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). Ensuring the safety of commuters, critical tasks such as LED installation, signage placement, and crash barrier setup have been successfully accomplished. Travelling speed on the flyover is limited to 40 km per hour, as stated by senior GHMC officials.
The VST flyover is set to effectively address the persistent traffic bottlenecks in densely populated zones encompassing Musheerabad, RTC crossroads, Indira Park, Ashoknagar, and Vidyanagar. This elevated steel structure will significantly enhance traffic flow between pivotal areas like RTC Cross Roads, Osmania University, Tarnaka, Amberpet, Uppal, and beyond.
These intersections experience substantial traffic congestion due to their central location amidst both residential and commercial establishments. Congestion aggravates notably during school and college hours due to the prevalence of educational institutions and coaching centers within the vicinity.
Initially targeted for completion by December 2022, the flyover project faced delays attributed to persistent heavy rains and subsequent fluctuations in steel prices.
