The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will introduce India’s first three-coach train on the upcoming Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block route, an 8-kilometre corridor under Phase IV expansion designed specifically to operate with three-coach trains for short-distance urban travel.
Each coach will accommodate approximately 300 passengers, bringing total capacity to around 900 people per trip. The corridor is projected to serve between 60,000 and 80,000 passengers daily in its initial phase, with numbers expected to exceed 120,000 by 2041. Construction commenced in December 2025, with the first test pile and groundbreaking ceremony held at Pushpa Bhawan near Saket.
The corridor will comprise eight elevated stations — Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block — with platforms measuring 74 metres, optimised for the modified train operations. The line will extend the Golden Line and traverse key residential and commercial zones of South Delhi.
Lajpat Nagar will become a triple interchange station connecting with the Pink and Violet Lines, while Chirag Delhi will link with the Magenta Line, and Saket G Block will offer interchange to the Airport corridor. The corridor is targeted for completion by June 2029.
