The Government of Maharashtra has secured ₹3,708 crore in funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency to upgrade healthcare infrastructure, medical education, and nursing systems across the state.
Approved under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the initiative will strengthen tertiary healthcare delivery through investments in government medical colleges, nursing institutions, and associated hospitals.
New and existing medical colleges in districts such as Wardha, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Ahilyanagar will see infrastructure upgrades and advanced equipment deployment. Nursing education capacity will also expand, with upgrades across key institutions and new colleges planned in Baramati, Sangli, and Kolhapur.
The programme includes an Indo-Japanese academic exchange to enhance clinical and administrative capabilities, aligning Maharashtra’s healthcare systems with global standards.
Alongside, the state has cleared recruitment reforms, including a no-interview policy for select posts and digital verification systems, aimed at building a future-ready workforce under the Viksit Maharashtra 2047 vision.
