Navi Mumbai International Airport to be named after D B Patil

The upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport will be named after the late D B Patil, a prominent people’s leader, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced during a public meeting in Airoli. He said the airport would act as a major catalyst for Navi Mumbai’s economic transformation.

Describing Navi Mumbai as the next growth engine after Mumbai, Fadnavis said the airport would support sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food processing, innovation, services, and import-export, significantly expanding the city’s economic base. He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects to ease congestion, including the Kalamboli junction upgrade, the Kharghar–Turbhe tunnel, and CIDCO-led metro connectivity.

Addressing civic needs, the Chief Minister said the Shilar and Poshir projects would strengthen water supply, while an EduCity planned in Navi Mumbai would attract global universities. He also announced housing redevelopment in Ghansoli, a new APMC market, a multi-speciality hospital in Belapur, and a central library at Manpada.
