The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) is moving forward with plans to extend the Metro from Basai in Gurugram to Bhadsa in Jhajjar. According to an official, a ridership survey conducted by the Railway India Technical and Engineering Services (RITES) is expected to conclude by the end of January 2025.

Initiated in March, the survey will determine the feasibility of the proposed 23.1km route and help finalise the project. The Metro extension may connect either Basai Metro station to AIIMS hospital in Bhadsa or the DMRC station at Dhansa in Delhi towards Bhadsa.

A senior HMRTC official noted that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had earlier conducted a techno-feasibility study for a 23km route from Dwarka Sector 21 to Bhadsa, proposing 17 Metro stations along the way.

Heavy traffic on the Gurugram-Bhadsa route has long been a concern, with a road project between Dwarka Expressway and Bhadsa shelved due to land acquisition issues. The Metro line is expected to improve commuting on this stretch, which has seen increased demand due to the establishment of the AIIMS campus in Bhadsa.

In addition, the HMRTC board has approved a draft proposal for a 36km Metro line from Sector 56 to Pachgaon. This line, costing an estimated Rs 8,500 crore, will include 27 elevated stations and cover key areas along the central peripheral road and the Dwarka Expressway.

The new Metro projects aim to enhance connectivity and ease travel for thousands of commuters between Gurugram, Jhajjar, and Delhi.
