Sterling and Wilson has successfully completed the handover of a Greenfield Data Center to the Raxio Group in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as announced on August 29, 2024. Raxio Group, Africa’s leading carrier-neutral, Tier III-certified data center operator, offers top-tier co-location and connectivity services, supporting the continent’s digital infrastructure. The new data center spans 4,300 square meters with a total IT load of 1.5 MW, catering to both co-location and hyperscale clients.
Sterling and Wilson’s role encompassed the full turnkey Civil & MEP execution for the facility, including achieving Tier-III Uptime TCDD and TCCF certifications. Notably, the project features a modular civil structure made from prefabricated steel, enabling faster construction and superior quality compared to traditional methods. The facility also incorporates Indirect Adiabatic Cooling (IAC), enhancing energy efficiency through better Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).
Despite challenges posed by the difficult geography and supply chain issues, the project was completed ahead of the 16-month schedule. Prasanna Sarambale, CEO of Sterling and Wilson’s data center business, expressed pride in delivering the project on time, highlighting the company’s expertise in managing complex data center developments across sub-Saharan Africa. Robert Saunders, Group CTO of Raxio Data Centers, commended the collaboration with Sterling and Wilson, emphasizing the center’s role in supporting Africa’s rapidly growing digital economy. The Raxio data center, DRC 1, is expected to significantly benefit both enterprise businesses and public sector organizations, contributing to the region’s ongoing digital transformation.
