The construction of the new Parandur Airport is anticipated to start within the next six months, pending final project clearance from the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO). This follows the recent site clearance granted by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation for the airport in Kancheepuram district under the Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008, approved by the Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports.
The project has received endorsements from key bodies, including the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and the Indian Air Force, ensuring that all preliminary approvals are in place.
Sources indicated that obtaining site and project clearance is crucial before construction can begin. They are currently preparing the project approval application and plan to approach the Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports soon. In addition, an aerodrome license from the DGCA will be required. The sources expressed confidence that all necessary documentation will be completed within the next six months, with construction expected to commence by early 2025.
TIDCO had submitted an application for environmental clearance to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change on March 14. Since the project does not involve forest land, forest clearance is not required. The final environmental approval is awaited to proceed with the project timeline.
