Delhi Metro’s 23.6-km Golden Line is set to open in phases, with the 8.4-km Tughlaqabad-Sangam Vihar stretch likely to become the first section to start operations by December 2026. The stretch will have four stations: Tughlaqabad, Tughlaqabad Railway Colony, Anandmayee Marg Junction and Sangam Vihar.
The corridor will eventually connect Tughlaqabad with Aerocity through 15 stations, comprising 11 underground and four elevated stations, along with a 2.4-km elevated double-decker flyover between Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar. Of the first stretch’s four stations, three (Tughlaqabad, Tughlaqabad Railway Colony and Anandmayee Marg Junction) will be underground. Construction began in June 2022 as part of the Phase 4 expansion, and more than 83 per cent of the civil work on the Aerocity-Tughlaqabad corridor has been completed, according to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
Major engineering milestones include the completion in June 2025 of an underground tunnel between Maa Anandmayee Marg and Tughlaqabad Railway Colony station, built at an average depth of 18 metres with 566 reinforced concrete rings.
The Golden Line, originally designated the Silver Line before being renamed in January 2024, will offer interchange with the Violet Line at Tughlaqabad, the Airport Express Line at Delhi Aerocity, the Yellow Line at Chhatarpur and the Brown Line at Saket G-Block. The corridor will operate with 13 six-coach driverless trains manufactured by Alstom, which have been arriving at the Sarita Vihar depot since April 2026.
