Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has said that girder launching work for the Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road, part of the Mumbai Coastal Road North project, will begin in the second week of October. The civic body is working towards a December 2028 completion deadline for the elevated connector, which will form the final stretch of the coastal corridor.
Construction progress on site includes 60 piles, five pile caps, four piers, pier caps and nine bridge segments completed to date. A casting yard has been established in Bhayandar to manufacture precast concrete structural components, while advanced construction machinery and a temporary access bridge are already operational at the site.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar inspected the casting yard, reviewing the precast manufacturing process, project progress and quality-control measures. He directed officials to expedite land acquisition by prioritising critical parcels and coordinating with the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation and other agencies.
The Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road spans approximately 5.135 km and includes elevated roads, roads on stilts through mangrove areas, elevated structures across creek and salt-pan land, connector roads, interchanges and flyovers. Its 3.83-km-long, 45-metre-wide main elevated road forms the final stretch of the coastal road.
The larger Mumbai Coastal Road North project spans around 60 km, linking Versova and Bhayandar. Once operational, the Dahisar-Bhayandar section is expected to cut travel time between Versova and Bhayandar from 90-120 minutes to just 15-20 minutes, easing congestion on the Western Express Highway and at Dahisar check naka.
