BMC Issues ₹2,200 Crore Tender for Bridges and Elevated Roads in Malad, Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a major infrastructure initiative in Malad, Mumbai, issuing a tender valued at approximately ₹2,200 crore for the construction of bridges and elevated roads aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity across the area.

The project includes the development of a cable-stayed vehicular bridge linking Lagoon Road to Infiniti Mall, with an estimated cost of ₹1,700 crore. This bridge is expected to become a vital artery for vehicular movement, significantly reducing congestion and connecting key residential and commercial zones. Its design will rely extensively on steel for the superstructure, ensuring both durability and structural stability.

In addition, the BMC plans to construct an elevated road over Ramchandra Nullah, with an allocated budget of around ₹400 crore. This elevated stretch is intended to streamline traffic over one of Malad’s busiest thoroughfares, offering an uninterrupted route for commuters and reducing pressure on the existing road network. The elevated structure will incorporate substantial steel components, enhance resilience and facilitating long-term maintenance.

Together, these projects are anticipated to enhance connectivity between Malad West, Malvani, and surrounding neighbourhoods, while supporting the city’s broader infrastructure development objectives. The integration of steel in both projects underscores the material’s role in modern urban construction, providing strength and longevity to structures that will handle high volumes of traffic.

With traffic congestion a persistent challenge in Mumbai, these developments are poised to deliver significant improvements in commuter experience and urban mobility. The projects also reflect a growing focus on blending engineering innovation with practical urban planning, ensuring that Malad can accommodate future growth while maintaining efficient and safe transportation networks.
