Pune Metro’s 23-km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar route is now expected to be operational by September 2025. Initially slated for completion by March 2025, the project faced delays due to election-related restrictions and VIP movements. However, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has confirmed that work is progressing rapidly to meet the revised deadline.

The new metro route will enhance connectivity to Hinjewadi Infotech Park, a major employment hub in Pune. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, has urged faster implementation, and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is set to review its progress. Additionally, PMRDA is building a flyover along Ganeshkhind Road to improve regional connectivity further.

This project is part of Pune Metro’s broader expansion. Phase 1, spanning 33 km and covering routes from Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate, became operational in 2024. Upcoming extensions include a 9-km stretch from PCMC to Nigdi and Swargate to Katraj, both expected to finish by 2025. Phase 2, covering 113.23 km, has received state approval and is awaiting clearance from the Union Government. Proposed extensions such as Ramwadi to Wagholi, Chandni Chowk to Vanaz, and Khadakwasla to Kharadi are also under consideration.
