Telangana is set to boost its aviation infrastructure with the development of a second airport at Mamnoor in Warangal district. Approved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the project aims to enhance connectivity in northern Telangana and decongest the state’s only operational airport, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.
The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, has allocated Rs 205 crore for acquiring over 280 acres of land. The AAI will manage the development, operations, and maintenance of the airport, which will accommodate A-320 aircraft. Located 175 km from Hyderabad, Mamnoor airport will improve regional connectivity, boost tourism, and stimulate local industries, diversifying the state’s economy.
Additionally, the government is pursuing further land acquisition to expand the runway and upgrade airport infrastructure, ensuring the facility meets future demand. This development aligns with India’s broader trend of enhancing aviation capacity to accommodate rising air traffic. By prioritising regional connectivity, Telangana reinforces its commitment to balanced growth and economic development in underserved areas.
