The Bhopal Metro will run between eight stations in its first phase, an expansion from the initial plan of five stations. The metro route, covering a track distance of 15 kilometers from Subash Nagar Metro depot to AIIMS, is expected to begin commercial operations by mid-2025.
Five of the eight stations are in the advanced stages of civil work, with the remaining three under various stages of construction. The major challenge for officials lies in laying the track over a railway overbridge and a newly constructed road overbridge. A 65-meter section of track needs to be installed on the railway overbridge, and completion of these sections will finalize the entire 15-kilometer metro route. Officials estimate that track installation on the bridges will be completed within 15 days, likely by the end of this month.
Bhopal is also set to receive one more Metro train set, joining the five currently undergoing testing. Ultimately, 27 Metro trains are planned to operate on the Bhopal Metro network.
Once operational, the metro is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Bhopal, providing a reliable and efficient public transportation option for commuters. The project is poised to enhance connectivity between key areas of the city, promoting sustainable urban mobility and contributing to the overall development of the region.
