The Bengaluru Metro’s Hebbal-Sarjapur Line, an important component of Namma Metro’s Phase 3A expansion, recently received approval from the state Finance Department, marking a significant milestone in the city’s metro development efforts. This 36.59 km line is set to connect Bengaluru’s northern and southern regions, providing a vital transit link through the city center.

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is scheduled to be presented to the state cabinet by the end of the month. Once approved at the state level, the project will advance to the Union government for necessary statutory clearances, with the central government expected to contribute up to 20% of the estimated project cost. This quick progression follows administrative consent from the Urban Development Department (UDD), granted less than three weeks prior to the Finance Department’s approval.

The Hebbal-Sarjapur line is projected to cost approximately ₹28,405 crore and will include a total of 28 stations, divided into 17 elevated stations and 11 underground stations. The line will feature four major interchange points located at Iblur (Outer Ring Road), Dairy Circle, KR Circle, and Hebbal. These strategic interchanges aim to streamline travel across Bengaluru, potentially reducing road congestion and improving daily commute times for residents.

This metro expansion aligns with Bengaluru’s goal to develop a more efficient urban transportation network and to ease the strain on the city’s existing road infrastructure. Once completed, the Hebbal-Sarjapur line will be a crucial component in providing accessible, sustainable transit options for a growing population.
