Bhopal Metro is undergoing significant development, with plans to model its stations after airports, ensuring passengers have access to a range of facilities such as food plazas, ATMs, and shops. A recent milestone was achieved with the completion of a trial run along the 6.2 km priority corridor from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS, indicating that commercial operations could commence in the near future.

The Metro Rail Corporation is actively preparing for this, with experts designing plans that will also be implemented for Indore’s metro stations. Progress on the stations is well underway, with five stations including RKMP, Subhash Nagar, Kendriya School, in front of DB Mall, and MP Nagar, nearing 90% completion. The remaining stations at DRM Chauraha, AIIMS, and Alkapuri are also making good progress, with 60-70% of the work completed.

One of the key aspects of the planning is to ensure these stations are not just transit points but also hubs for various services. The stations are being constructed over a large area, allowing for the inclusion of food plazas, bank ATMs, and retail shops. This multifunctional approach is expected to generate additional revenue and enhance the overall passenger experience.

Looking ahead, the second phase of the metro project is set to begin in June-July, with a focus on the 8.77 km line between Subhash Nagar and Karond. This phase will include a 3.39 km underground route with two metro stations, complemented by six stations above ground. The total cost for this phase is estimated at Rs 1540 crore.

The Bhopal Metro project is not just about improving transportation but also about transforming the city’s infrastructure. With a focus on sustainability and efficiency, the metro system aims to reduce congestion, promote economic development, and position Bhopal as a modern and progressive city.
