Patna Metro Trial Run Planned Ahead of Corridor Expansion

Patna’s metro network is steadily taking shape as the city prepares to operationalise two more stations- Malahi Pakri and Khemnichak, on its priority corridor, marking another step toward expanding urban rail connectivity in the Bihar capital. The stations are expected to open next month, subject to safety clearance after a trial run scheduled for the last week of February.

According to officials from Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRC), the trial will be conducted by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) across a 2.9km stretch linking the new stations with the existing elevated section of Corridor II, also known as the Blue Line. Approval after inspection will pave the way for regular passenger services on the extended route.

All civil, electrical and allied works at both stations have been completed, with authorities confirming operational readiness. A major milestone was achieved with the successful fire safety inspection at Malahi Pakri station in February, along with earlier electrical inspections conducted in mid-February. Officials stated that signalling systems, tracks and station equipment have been tested and comply with required standards.

At present, metro services operate along a 3.6km elevated stretch connecting ISBT, Zero Mile and Bhootnath stations, operational since October last year. With the addition of Malahi Pakri and Khemnichak, the entire 6.6km elevated priority corridor between Malahi Pakri and Patliputra ISBT will become functional, improving connectivity across eastern Patna and easing travel along key corridors such as Bypass Road and Kankerbagh.

Corridor II, spanning 14.5km with both elevated and underground sections, is targeted for full completion by late 2026.
