Bhubaneswar to Get Two Data Centres Worth Rs 1,066 Crore

Bhubaneswar will see the establishment of two new data centers worth over ₹1,000 crore, enhancing Odisha’s digital infrastructure. This move aims to bolster the state’s data governance ecosystem. Bhubaneswar is set to strengthen its position as a key data infrastructure hub in eastern India with the establishment of two new data centers, backed by a combined investment of ₹1,066.48 crore.

The Adani Group has proposed a data center in Info Valley with an investment of ₹800 crore, aimed at supporting cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital governance platforms.

This facility is expected to create approximately 200 high-end direct and indirect jobs, contributing to a robust digital ecosystem that attracts technology firms and cloud service providers.

In addition, the Odisha government has approved the establishment of a new State Data Centre 2.0 (SDC 2.0) at a cost of ₹266.48 crore. This facility will replace the existing State Data Centre, which currently hosts numerous government applications and databases. Anu Garg, Chief Secretary, stated that the new facility will be tier-III compliant, offering scalable cloud infrastructure, enhanced cybersecurity features, and disaster recovery mechanisms to support the growing digital needs of the state government.

The SDC 2.0 is designed to accommodate increasing demands from e-governance initiatives, AI applications, and the integration of government databases, ensuring uninterrupted availability of critical services.

This decision follows the rollout of the Odisha State Data Policy (OSDP) 2026, which aims to create a unified data governance architecture across the state. The policy focuses on governance-driven data management, administrative efficiency, and privacy protection, marking a significant shift from previous frameworks that primarily emphasized open-data access and departmental digitization.
