Multimodal push sharpens project alignment under GatiShakti

The Network Planning Group (NPG), under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has evaluated a fresh set of infrastructure proposals in its 110th meeting under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, reinforcing a coordinated approach to multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency.

The review covered six projects spanning rail, metro, and highways, with a focus on last-mile connectivity and integration across economic and social nodes. Among key rail proposals, the doubling of the Arakkonam–Chengalpattu line in Tamil Nadu aims to enhance capacity across 67.79 km, while the Whitefield–Bangarpet quadrupling in Karnataka will segregate passenger and freight traffic to improve operational efficiency.

Urban mobility projects include the proposed fully underground Mumbai Metro Line 11 and extensions to Pune Metro Line 4, designed to reduce congestion and strengthen regional connectivity.

On the highways front, the Badnawar–Petlawad corridor will enhance access to industrial nodes, while the Fotu La Tunnel is expected to ensure all-weather connectivity and reduce travel time. Collectively, the projects signal a sharper push toward integrated, high-efficiency infrastructure planning.
