Jindal Steel has doubled the steelmaking capacity of its Angul facility in Angul to 12 MTPA, positioning it among the largest single-location steel plants in the country. The expansion, completed within the planned timeframe, lifts the company’s total crude steel capacity to 15.6 MTPA, including 3.6 MTPA at its Raigarh unit.
The scale-up is expected to drive higher production volumes and improve capacity utilisation, enabling stronger revenue growth and operational efficiencies. By leveraging economies of scale, the company aims to optimise costs and enhance profitability while reinforcing its presence across core sectors such as infrastructure, railways, automotive, and energy.
Although financial details were not disclosed, industry benchmarks suggest significant capital investment underpinning the expansion. The move aligns with India’s broader push to strengthen domestic steel capacity and advance the vision of self-reliance.
With increased output of value-added steel products, Jindal Steel is set to play a larger role in supporting the country’s infrastructure-led growth trajectory.
