₹150 Crore Development Plan Announced for Gadchiroli Mining Region

The Gadchiroli district administration in Maharashtra has unveiled a ₹150 crore plan to enhance infrastructure and public amenities within a 25-kilometre radius of the region’s mining zones. The initiative aims to address the developmental needs of communities affected by mining operations while supporting industrial growth in the area.

A significant portion of the funding will be directed towards repairing and upgrading roads damaged by heavy mining vehicle traffic, ensuring safer and more efficient connectivity. The plan also includes the establishment of smart schools, modern maternity clinics, and upgraded health sub-centres equipped with mobile blood collection facilities and X-ray units, aiming to improve healthcare accessibility for local residents.

In addition to social infrastructure, the initiative will support sustainable development measures. Investments will be made in solar energy projects to enhance renewable energy adoption, fisheries to boost local livelihoods, skill development programmes to improve employability, and irrigation facilities to strengthen agricultural productivity.

The five-year plan is expected to provide long-term benefits by improving quality of life, generating employment opportunities, and creating a more resilient infrastructure network. These upgrades will also facilitate smoother industrial operations for companies such as JSW Steel, which is expanding its presence in the region’s mining sector.

Officials emphasise that the development programme is designed to balance industrial growth with community welfare, ensuring that the economic gains from mining activities contribute directly to local progress. The combination of infrastructure repair, social services, and sustainable development projects is seen as a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges faced by mining-affected areas.
