Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd (GMRL) has announced tenders for the construction of the first phase of the Gurugram Metro, extending from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9. The project, estimated at Rs 1,286 crore, is set to open bids on April 22.
As a special purpose vehicle responsible for mass rapid transit projects in Haryana, GMRL’s new metro line will cover 15.22 km of viaduct, 15 stations, and a 1.85 km spur to Dwarka Expressway, with a ramp to the proposed depot in Sector 33.
The stations included in Phase 1 will be Millennium City Centre (connected to the existing DMRC station via an interchange), Sector 45, Cyber Park (Sector 46), Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, Sector 9, and Sector 101.
According to the tender issued on March 8, the selected contractor will be responsible for conducting a detailed survey of the viaduct alignment and constructing the station structures, including track supports, commercial areas, and other civil works. They will also set up a control room with continuous communication links to safety offices and work sites.
Additionally, as part of the compensatory afforestation program, GMRL plans to plant 16,600 trees to offset the 1,660 trees to be felled for the metro project. This effort will require 17 hectares of land, which will be provided in collaboration with the Forest Department and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
