Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, West Bengal, is undergoing a major expansion with a new terminal expected to be completed by March 2027. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has planned a two-phase development, with the first phase covering 70,400 square meters and the second adding 50,000 square meters.
Airport Director Mohammad Arif confirmed that the existing airport will continue operations while the new terminal is built. The Rs 1,560-crore project includes two tenders, one for terminal construction and another for airside infrastructure.
Darjeeling MP Raju Bista welcomed the initiative, highlighting that the new facility will be ten times larger than the current terminal and enhance both domestic and international flight operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the terminal’s foundation stone in October 2024, following the Union Cabinet’s approval of a new civil enclave.
Designed to accommodate 10 million passengers annually, the terminal will feature a green building design, an apron with ten aircraft parking bays, two link taxiways, and a multi-level parking facility.
