The construction of a steel bridge over the Ganga River at Phaphamau is progressing swiftly, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) aiming to complete the 450-meter-long bridge by December 10, 2024. The work is being carried out around the clock to ensure that the bridge is ready well ahead of the Maha Kumbh, a significant religious event that attracts millions of devotees.

The temporary steel bridge is expected to play a vital role in managing the massive influx of devotees during the event, helping to ease transportation challenges in the region. In addition to the bridge, a four-kilometer-long approach road has already been completed, with final touches set to be finished by December 15.

While a new six-lane bridge is under construction at Phaphamau, it won’t be ready in time for the Maha Kumbh. As a result, the state government decided to build the temporary steel bridge to ensure smooth and efficient transportation for the devotees during the event, enhancing the overall infrastructure in the area.
