Uttar Pradesh is taking bold steps to promote solar energy as a sustainable solution to meet the state’s growing electricity demands and to combat rising energy costs. The state has embarked on an ambitious project to develop nine large-scale solar parks with a combined capacity of 3,710 MW. This initiative is part of a broader push to increase the adoption of renewable energy across the region.

So far, three of these solar parks, totaling 435 MW in capacity, have been successfully commissioned and are now operational. The development of the remaining six parks is progressing swiftly, with the bidding process well underway. The state government has already finalized land allocation for all nine parks, which paves the way for their rapid construction and deployment.

These solar parks are strategically located across several cities, including four in the Bundelkhand region—Jhansi, Lalitpur, Chitrakoot, and Jalaun—and others in Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Mirzapur, and Prayagraj. The parks in Bundelkhand, Kanpur Nagar, and Kanpur Dehat are currently under construction, with capacities ranging from 35 MW to 1,200 MW. The ongoing tendering process indicates the state’s commitment to swiftly moving these projects from the planning phase to execution.

The state government has set a long-term goal of generating 22,000 MW of electricity from solar energy. This target includes the installation of 6,000 MW of solar rooftop plants on both private and government buildings, and 14,000 MW from solar utility projects and parks. This massive push towards renewable energy is also supported by initiatives like the PM-KUSUM Yojana, under which 16.17 MW of grid tube wells are now being powered by solar energy.
