Cricket fans across the country may soon have a new venue to look forward to, as plans are underway to develop a modern, world-class stadium in Delhi aimed at significantly enhancing the spectator experience.
The Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) has written to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the Union government seeking land allotment in the national capital for the proposed project.
DDCA president Rohan Jaitley confirmed the development, stating that four locations, Okhla, Dwarka, Rohini, and Narela, have been shortlisted for evaluation. According to Jaitley, the association is prioritising a site with strong metro and road connectivity, along with proximity to hotels and hospitals, to ensure smoother access and better match-day convenience for fans.
The existing Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi currently has a seating capacity of about 35,000 and reportedly offers limited scope for expansion. The proposed new stadium is expected to accommodate 60,000–70,000 spectators. Land clearance for the project is anticipated by the end of the year.
Reports also indicate that preliminary discussions involving the Delhi Chief Minister, ICC chairman Jay Shah, and Rohan Jaitley have already taken place.
