Nagpur Metro’s Phase 2 expansion is making strides, with the Kamptee corridor leading the progress. This 13 km stretch, featuring 12 densely packed stations, has already extended its viaducts beyond Khairi and is nearing Kamptee, leaving only the final segment to Kanhan.
Of the 32 planned stations for Phase 2, construction work has commenced on 14. According to MahaMetro, tenders worth Rs 3,312.70 crore have been awarded, with Rs 219.33 crore in tenders awaiting final approval. These cover essential components like viaducts, stations, and infrastructure such as subways and bridges.
Officials confirmed that 80% of the required land for the project has been acquired, with the remaining landowners providing consent. The Mihan-Butibori stretch recently began groundwork, supported by a casting yard near Gumgaon village, one of three operational casting yards for Phase 2.
The Rs 6,708 crore Phase 2 project spans 43.8 km and aims to connect Nagpur’s peripheral areas to its core. With funding from the European Investment Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and government equity, the entire network is expected to be operational by December 2027.
