Haryana has successfully installed 9,609 rooftop solar systems with a total capacity of 45.90 MW, as revealed during a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Vivek to review the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The government has also provided Rs 52.54 crore in subsidies to encourage the adoption of solar power. Efforts are focused on equipping government buildings with solar power, with the Public Works Department (PWD) creating a centralized portal for data management of government properties. Site surveys for 3,011 buildings have identified a potential 91.78 MW solar power generation capacity.
Additionally, the Department of New and Renewable Energy has invited bids for an 8.4 MW grid-connected rooftop solar project under the CAPEX model. The government also plans to develop a model solar village in each district, in collaboration with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, to showcase solar power’s transformative potential in rural areas. The initiative includes solar-based home lighting systems, water systems, agricultural pumps, and streetlights.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to provide free electricity to one crore households in India. Central and state financial assistance is offered to domestic electricity consumers, particularly Antyodaya families. The scheme also focuses on promoting clean energy access in villages and helping communities become more self-reliant, while reducing electricity costs. Haryana has trained over 2,700 ITI students with industry-oriented curricula for solar equipment installation, and the state has 100 ITI master trainers to support ground-level installation efforts.
