The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned Rs 2.88 billion for the construction of an 8.1 km railway flyover linking Sambalpur station with Sambalpur city station. This project is part of the Indian Railways’ energy corridor initiative aimed at improving infrastructure and reducing congestion at this crucial junction.

The new flyover will facilitate simultaneous train movements from all directions, addressing current delays and inefficiencies caused by cross-traffic from Jharsuguda, Titilagarh, and Angul. By allowing uninterrupted train flow, the flyover will enhance operational efficiency, eliminate surface crossings, and reduce waiting times for trains.

Once completed, the flyover will provide dedicated tracks for trains traveling to and from Titlagarh, Jharsuguda, and Angul, significantly improving train speeds and reducing delays. This development is expected to streamline operations at Sambalpur and Sambalpur city stations.

Previously, the Ministry approved Rs 1.91 billion for a 7.41 km flyover at Khurda Road station and Rs 1.83 billion for an 8.11 km flyover at Titlagarh station. Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has instructed the East Coast Railway (ECoR) to ensure timely completion of these infrastructure projects.
