First private train service from Kerala launched by Princy World Travels in partnership with SRMPR Global Railways on June 4, offering routes to Mumbai, Goa, and Ayodhya with a capacity for 750 passengers. The train includes 2 sleeper class bogies, 11 third class AC coaches, and 2 second class AC coaches, along with 60 staff, medical experts, food, Wi-Fi, GPS, and star hotel accommodations and sightseeing packages.
Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) pioneers digital ticketing with Google Wallet, the first metro in India to adopt this technology, simplifying ticketing and expected to increase ridership. Passengers can purchase QR code tickets through the app and even cancel them, streamlining the travel experience. The system will soon extend to Kochi Water Metro (KWML) services.
The ‘Make in India’ initiative sees the launch of a 100m steel bridge over the Vadodara-Ahmedabad main line for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, showcasing India’s indigenous technical capabilities. The steel bridge, weighing 1,486 MT, was fabricated in Gujarat and transported to the site, using a unique painting technique.
Indian Railways aims to earn Rs.54 billion from scrap sales in fiscal 2024-25, an increase from the previous year’s target. Northern Railways, with a record-high scrap sale in the previous fiscal year, has been tasked to increase sales further. Scrap includes rails, P-way materials, condemned coaches, locomotives, wagons, and various other items like bogies, metal odds and ends, used batteries, and electrical items.
