The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced the construction of a 500-metre skywalk along a busy stretch of National Highway-16, connecting Palasuni and Rasulgarh in Bhubaneswar. The project, estimated at ₹20 crore, is aimed at improving pedestrian safety while easing traffic congestion on one of the city’s most heavily used entry corridors.
The Palasuni–Rasulgarh stretch is known for high traffic density and has long been identified as an accident-prone zone, particularly for pedestrians crossing fast-moving lanes. The proposed skywalk will provide a secure, well-lit, and dedicated pathway, enabling safer pedestrian movement while allowing uninterrupted vehicular flow beneath.
Officials noted that the facility is expected to enhance road discipline, reduce congestion, and minimise accident risks in the area. Once completed, the skywalk is anticipated to serve as a people-centric urban mobility solution, improving accessibility and safety for daily commuters navigating this critical highway section.
