UP sets aside Rs 400 crore for North–South Corridor to strengthen connectivity

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a Rs 400 crore allocation for a proposed North–South Corridor aimed at improving road links across 20 districts that largely depend on smaller connecting roads. Stretching about 2,300 km and planned in six segments, the project will involve road widening, strengthening, and new construction, reflecting a shift from expressway-led growth to broader network connectivity.

In the wider road infrastructure push, the state has provided Rs 34,468 crore for road and flyover upgrades. This includes Rs 4,808 crore for bridges and flyovers to ease urban congestion, and Rs 1,700 crore for Railway Over Bridges, aligning with major rail investments announced in the Union Budget.

A further Rs 3,700 crore has been allocated for maintaining state highways, major roads, and district routes to support the durability of existing infrastructure, and another Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated for the construction of bypasses, ring roads, and flyovers at key road intersections.
